Frequently Asked Questions

What scales do you work in?

There are three main scales of farm models: 1/64th, 1/32 and 1/16. While I work in all three scales, I create the most dioramas and custom models in 1/16th scale.

Can you create a specific tractor or scene from old photos?

Yes. In most cases I can accurately re-create in miniature tractors, buildings and the general features of the landscape as shown in photos. There are some compromises that must be considered, such as selective compression, desired height of the finished display and to what degree artistic license plays in creating the overall effect of the scene.

What diecast models do you prefer to work with?

I work mainly in diecast, but also work in styrene and resin. I prefer to start with highly detailed tractors or implements from either the Ertl Precision Series or the high detail SpecCast models.

Do you work on commissions?

Yes, custom commissions make up most of my work. I prefer to work directly with clients to create custom tractors, machines, agricultural buildings and landscapes.

I will request photos, measurements and at times I will travel to the farm to conduct a detailed study the area or machines to be modeled.

How much do your custom dioramas cost?

The costs of my work is highly dependent on the level of detail a client requires for their project. Many other factors affect the cost, including size of the diorama, the quality level and material of the base, the availability of commercial farm models required, the complexity of the farm buildings, how many trees and of what species, what season is modeled and will there be lights and sound required. All of these factors and others will help me determine an estimate for the commissioned piece. You can contact me through the form on the site to set-up a consultation for estimates.

Do you accept custom work to weather or detail individual tractors and implements?

Yes. I can create custom tractors and implements to match almost any prototype, depending on if a suitable commercial model is available to serve as the starting point. Some of the services I provide in this area are custom paint, weathering, wear and tear and operational lights.

Do you take corporate commissions?

Yes, I can create lobby art installations, or marketing pieces, or historical pieces for corporate clients.

Do you ship your work?

Yes and no. I will ship individual tractors and implements, but I do not ship dioramas. For Dioramas I will deliver to the National Toy Show in Dyersville Iowa, where they can be picked up. For commercial commissions, depending on size and cost, I will personally deliver and install.
